Rather than just simply watching a stop-motion film, my sculptural work, and the corresponding short animated films situate the viewer as an active participant in a world of fantasy. The movable sculptures (puppets) and props that I create conjure the possibility of animated spaces through mundane everyday materials and a stylistic color palette. The materials that I utilize, which can range from felt, airdry clay, paper mache, ink, and recycled objects, demonstrate the dynamic capacity of these materials to transform and illustrate a cinematic scene through the transformative nature of stop motion animation. I encourage, practice, and understand the broader possibility of play using material and fantasy within a sculptural, three-dimensional practice that ultimately results in a two-dimensional, digital film.
